Our Story | Country Club Winter Haven | Winter Haven Florida

In 1923, the founding members, seeking a place of natural beauty, and a congenial way of life, had no way of knowing that their new association was to eventually become Central Florida’s most prestigious and historic private country club.

Today, we reap the benefits of gentlemen, who back then, made a decision and commitment to form what was then Lake Region Country Club. But it wasn’t until 1964 that the Club resembled anything close to a modern country club as we know one today. In 2013 the Club sold to a small group of equity Members and is now known as The Country Club of Winter Haven. History though, will not be forgotten.

Harrison Ambrose, Duncan Bruce, Lisle Davis, H.E. Cornell, George Grandy, Don Register, J.W. Pope, R.D. Pope, John Snively, Sr. and Norman Street were the original group with a vision for an exclusive country club. But for 40 years, through several wars, The Great Depression, a hurricane and countless financial setbacks, they and others who had like ideas over time, did not give up on the dream. Since then, Lake Region evolved into an 18-hole golf course, a clubhouse and a small Golf Shop. The property comprised approximately one mile of lake frontage and 200 acres of land. The members have watched countless projects, improvements, and additions to the grounds and buildings and seen Commodores, chefs, golf pros and countless other employees come and go.

The first trip down the long, tree lined drive leading to the Club solidifies the fact that this is someplace special; where memories have been made over the years during dances and weddings, tournaments and parties, sun drenched days by the pool, holes-in-one, and tennis rallies. But, more importantly, this property, no matter the name, is treasured as a place where lifetime relationships have been, and will be formed.

The Country Club of Winter Haven is a place where generations have enjoyed the country club lifestyle with family and friends...just as the founders imagined it would be 90 years ago.
